Mild, or superficial, skin peels usually have minimal downtime. Most people can return to their normal activities right away, although some might experience slight redness or sensitivity for a few hours to a couple of days. It's essential to follow post-peel care instructions to keep your skin healthy during recovery and to get the best results out of your treatment.
Before a skin peel, it's important to prepare your skin properly. Here are some steps you can follow:
1. Avoid Certain Products: A week or two before the peel, avoid retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), and other exfoliating agents that can increase sensitivity.
2. Limit Sun Exposure: Protect your skin from sun exposure and use sunscreen regularly to prevent any irritation.
3. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.
4. Cleanse: and hydrate your skin daily.
5. Moisturise: Use a gentle moisturizer to keep your skin in good condition leading up to the peel.
6. Avoid Blood Thinners: If possible, avoid medications and supplements that can thin your blood, such as aspirin and fish oil, a few days before the procedure.
After a mild skin peel, proper aftercare is essential to promote healing and protect your skin. Here are some key tips:
1. Keep it Clean: Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face. Avoid scrubbing or using harsh products for a few days.
2. Hydrate: Use hydrating serum to help the healing process and restore moisture to the skin.
3. Moisturise: Apply a soothing, hydrating moisturiser regularly to help prevent dryness and flakiness.
4. Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of the sun and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to protect your skin. Sun exposure can lead to irritation or hyperpigmentation.
5. Don’t Pick: Avoid picking at any peeling skin or using exfoliants, as this can lead to irritation or scarring.
6. Skip Makeup: Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours post-peel to let your skin breathe and heal.
7. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
8. Avoid Heat: No exercising that cause sweating, avoid hot baths and showers, saunas etc
